Green Belt Biochar
Green Belt biochar is produced from certified Irish biomass. We produce a char with 80% Carbon content that is incredible as a soil amendment and has qualities for on farm use.
Biochar, produced through an oxygen deprived pyrolysis process, has enormous surface area. It is in these pores that microorganisms will live and thrive within. This adds significantly to the biodiversity of the soil and improves the aeration and health of the soil.
Working as a catalyst, Biochar will adsorb nutrients a d through a cation exchange, deliver the nutrients to the root structure requiring them. It stabilises and captures heavy metals in the soil like Cadmium and Arsenic and delivers Nitrogen and Phosphorus in the soil.
The most frequent applications of biochar are in soil amendments and significant value can be added particularly in lower yield class soils. Biochar can be applied to soil in its natural, ‘raw’ format of that is what you require. In this state it will maintain and enhance the moisture content of the soil and improve drainage results.
With the addition of organic nutrients (for example) derived from the addition of manure and/ or slurry and spread across the ground you will see quite dramatic improvements in grass yield - but not immediately! Initially the growth will be slower but once it begins to deliver and stabilise, the results are worth of all the praise Biochar has been receiving for millennia.
Not only are you improving the grass yield, and in dairy operations this will lead to increased milk yield, you are also securing Carbon in the soil for a minimum of 1,000 years. This can and will address your carbon footprint as this carbon storage would not have occurred without your intervention. Further, the increased yield captures more carbon which is stored in the biochar enriched soil.
Green Belt Biochar is available in a number of options and sold by volume. T Contact Maurice at +353 (87) 675 3097 or via email at maurice@greenbelt.ie to place your order.
