NURSE A TREE - a tree for every nurse
Green Belt is planting 80,000 tree's across Ireland dedicated to the wonderful nurses of Ireland. During the pandemic, there has been an unprecedented demand on the nurses across all healthcare facilities, suffering loss and pain for 2 years. we are planting these woodlands and dedicating them to the nurses. This is a symbol of gratitude and a recognition of their value and worth to our neighbourhoods and society. These woodlands will, in many cases, become amenities for the public to enjoy.
The initiative of planting tree's for the nurses across Ireland was created by Clodagh Connaughton, a healthcare worker and art therapist with a big heart! Clodagh asked Green Belt to help with her dream of leaving a living legacy for the nurses of Ireland.
We are working with landowners, public bodies such as hospitals and councils and all those with lands they would like to commit to tree's and create woodlands. The forests can be dedicated to the nurses of Ireland and exit as a living legacy to their hard work, endeavour, commitment and service in the communities of Ireland.
Our focus is to ultimately create neighbour woods that facilitate local in a community to enjoy the woodlands and to have a facility for people to forest bathe - proven to help reduce anxiety and stress. Of course, there are significant environmental benefits to establishing woodlands and the permanence of these is an added bonus to Irelands forest cover.
It has been calculated that there are 20,000 Hectares of public lands available and suitable for woodland creation! That would be 60 million tree's planted across Ireland with a purely emotional, amenity and aesthetic purpose. Now isn't that a real goal to pursue.
